Sixth Graders Visit CSUMB

University Promise

On Tuesday, December, 2, 2014, Los Arboles sixth grade students visited the CSUMB campus and participated in the annual University Promise presentation.   After listening to inspiring presentations from CSUMB staff and college students, our sixth graders made an academic promise to do their best in school, work hard, graduate from high school and pursue a college degree.  In return, the CSUMB Admission Staff promised our students that they will save a spot for them if they complete their academic promise.  In addition, each student received a packet filled with information that guides, informs, and prepares them for college.  Lastly, our students received a Junior Otter card.  The card reminds the students of their academic promise they made to themselves to prepare for, attend, and graduate from college.  This was a rewarding and successful event for our Los Arboles sixth grade students.

AVID Trip to CSUMB 11/14/14

Ms. Theobald took her 7th and 8th grade AVID classes on a field trip to CSUMB. Students went on Friday, 11/14 to explore college life. The AVID students were able to tour the campus outside, and visit inside the student center, library, dorms, dining hall, book store, and classrooms. It was a beautiful day and the students were introduced to the California State University system. Later in the year students hope to visit one of the  University of California locations, and a private university.

Authors and Ideas Festival Trip 9/26/14

Students from Los Arboles Middle School had the great opportunity to attend the Authors and Ideas Festival Student Literary Days held at the Performing Arts Center at the Santa Catalina School in Monterey. At the event, students had the privilege to listen, speak and engage with renowned authors, musicians, politicians and entrepreneurs.  Eighth grade students, Leanne Bagood, Riley Brearton and Amadeus Soria exemplified their leadership skills upon introducing selected key speakers during the event. In addition, 8th grader, Karla Reyes Barajas, volunteered to perform on stage in an entertaining one-minute version of William Shakespeare's Hamlet with other MPUSD students of surrounding schools. It was a pleasure to watch our students connect with other members of our community while participating in such a well-orchestrated presentation of the human spirit.  Students were ultimately left with the understanding that through perseverance and commitment, there is no goal that is out of reach.
